Medical Oncologist and Clinical Pharmacologist at IPO Porto and PhD student in Medical Sciences at ICBAS-UP

Júlio Oliveira was born in 1979, in Porto, Portugal. He concluded his graduation in Medicine at the Instituto de CiênciasBiomédicas de Abel Salazar – Porto University (ICBAS-UP), in September 2003, after experienced a period as Erasmus student in the Universita’ degliStudi di Pavia. He started the general medical training in Hospital de S. João - Porto, in 2004. Medical Oncology specialization was concluded at Instituto Português de Oncologia – IPO Porto, in February 2011. Since April 2011 he is Medical Oncologist in this Institution.

A relevant part of his activity is focused in clinical research, mostly in early phase clinical trials, having had training in the Unité des essais cliniques de phase I – Service Innovations Thérapeutiques Précoces SITEP – Institute Gustave Roussy (Paris, France); Phase 1 Program – Experimental Therapeutics Department in MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston, USA); Clinical Trial Unit, KarolinskaInstitutet (Stockolm, Sweden); START – South Texas Accelerated Research Therapeutics (San Antonio, USA); Phase 1 clinical trial unit, VallD´Hebron Instituto de Oncologia - VHIO (Barcelona, Spain).

During last years he was responsible for several fase II and III clinical trials, mainly in lung and breast cancer. He was also co-investigator of the fase I clinical trial,first-in-human,with the first cancer treatment developed in Portugal, the Redaporfin.

In April 2017 he obtained the specialty of Clinical Pharmacology. At present time he is developing a PhD project in the area of Immuno-Oncology (ICBAS-UP).
